Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol used to encode the data exchanged between a server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to protect the information that customers submit on your website - a login page, a payment page if you run a web-based store, and so on. Any data they type in in any box on the Internet site shall be submitted securely to the server, so their login or payment information will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized people. In general, an SSL certificate requires a dedicated IP address to be set up, meaning that the overall cost for your web presence shall be bigger. While this may not be a problem for a larger firm, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small online store which does not generate big earnings if additional money should be spent. That's the reason why we've taken advantage of an extension known as Server Name Indication (SNI) and we've made it possible to use a shared server IP address to install an SSL certificate.
Shared SSL IP in Website Hosting
A shared IP could be used for any SSL certificate, irrespective if you acquire it from our company or from another vendor and regardless of the website hosting service you have on our end. If you acquire the SSL through us, you'll find this option on the certificate order page in your hosting CP where you could also take full advantage of the 1-click automatic configuration option which we offer. If the latter is picked within the SSL order wizard, our system will install and set up everything for you using the specially configured server shared IP, therefore once you obtain and approve the SSL, there shall not be anything else to do on your end. You can save the money that you'll otherwise need to pay for a dedicated IP and the SSL shall function in the exact same way, so any data which the site visitors submit will be encrypted. The only difference is that if you input the shared IP address instead of your domain in an Internet browser, the Internet site will not appear.
Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Hosting
You could use a shared IP address for an SSL acquired through us or through any other vendor with any one of our Linux semi-dedicated hosting. The setup is incredibly easy and if you get the certificate from our company, you can also take advantage of our SSL wizard where with only a couple of clicks you'll be able to select the SSL to be installed automatically for the specific domain or subdomain on the shared IP that is configured to be employed for this purpose. This option shall save you time and efforts as you'll not have to do anything after you approve the SSL via e mail, not mentioning the funds you'll save for the IP on a monthly basis. Your website will be secure and any customer will feel certain that their data shall be protected considering that using a shared IP address doesn't affect the proper functioning of the certificate and the sole difference from using a dedicated one is that the IP address can't be used as a URL to access your site.
