SSH Telnet
Find out more about the Telnet protocol and its use.
SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol which is used to connect to a server and execute different tasks via a command line. The protocol is used by many skilled users, because the info transmitted over it is encrypted, so it can't be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access can be used for a number of things depending on the type of Internet hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file when the web server allows it. When you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for virtually anything - you can install software or restart particular services such as the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is used typically with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients which enable you to use the protocol if your computer is working with a different OS too. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port although a number of service providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Website Hosting
SSH access is featured with all
Linux website hosting that we provide. With some of them, it's included as standard, while with others it is an additional upgrade that you can add with a couple of clicks from your web hosting CP. You can get SSH access from the section dedicated to it where you shall also find the details that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You could choose the password which you will use and, if necessary, you will be able to modify it with a couple of clicks from the same place. All of the commands which can be used with our shared packages are listed inside a help article along with relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is permitted for your account, you'll also be able to upload files using your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you have a
semi-dedicated server account with our company, you'll be able to receive SSH access to it with only a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting CP, offered with all accounts. If your package does not support this function by default, you shall be able to add it easily using the Upgrades menu. As soon as you go to the SSH section, you shall find the details which you need to connect to the server through a command line or a desktop application - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated at any time, when required. These login credentials are also required if you'd like to upload files through a secure connection and you want to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service that we offer you. A detailed list of the commands which you can carry out will give you a better idea of what tasks you could perform in your account and each is accompanied by a couple of instances of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS Web Hosting
The
virtual private server packages which we offer include SSH access as standard, not as a paid upgrade or a feature which you need to activate. Once your new server is ready, you will be able to connect and start working on your content using the login details that you've entered throughout the order process. A copy of the SSH credentials shall be sent to you via e-mail as well. Because your VPS shall be isolated from the other ones on the physical web server, there aren't any limitations in regards to what you can or cannot do using SSH. You are able to download, set up and manage any piece of software which will run on a Linux hosting server, reboot the whole server or simply a certain software component, and work with files, folders and databases without restrictions. All you will need for that is a console or an SSH client on your end.
